Women's Soccer Match Named NAIA Network Match of the Week

No. 12 Biola hosts No. 10 Vanguard on Saturday in a battle for the top of the GSAC table.

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola vs. Vanguard is becoming one of the biggest rivalries in all of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics, and they are beginning to take notice of that. When the two institutions' women's soccer programs go head-to-head on Saturday night in La Mirada it will be the NAIA Network National Game of the Week.

The No. 10 Lions come to Al Barbour Field with an 8-2 overall record and a conference-leading 3-0 record in Golden State Athletic Conference matchups. The No. 12 Eagles are just two points behind in the conference standings with a 2-0-1 GSAC mark and have yet to lose to any team in the 2016 campaign with an impressive 8-0-1 overall record.

On Saturday night the two teams will play their first match in La Mirada since Oct. 18, 2014. Vanguard won that match, and the Lions have won every meeting between these two sides since Biola worked a double-overtime victory back in October 2011. Five of those seven consecutive Vanguard victories were by just one goal, so these two teams put on a show every time they do get together.

Biola is 6-0-1 at home in the 2016 season and has not suffered a regular season loss at Al Barbour Field since Oct. 3 of last year. That is 10 consecutive home matches without a loss coming into this weekend. Dating back to the start of the 2012 season Biola Women's Soccer is 35-8-4 at home. Both of Vanguard's two losses this season have come on the road. Those losses were in the Lions' first two games of the season. They've since won eight in a row.

The match begins at 4:30 p.m. General Admission is $6 (cash only). Biola students, staff, faculty and alumni are free. The game will be streamed live (with no charge) at https://portal.stretchinternet.com/biola/. There is also a men's game between the two sides immediately following the women's match.

The NAIA Network Game of the Week is a joint effort between the NAIA and its streaming video provider, Stretch Internet, to highlight member schools that utilize live video-streaming with Stretch Internet.
