Biola Brings Out Brooms For Fourth Consecutive Match

Biola Volleyball remains perfect in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball continued its march through early Golden State Athletic Competition on Saturday afternoon as it took down William Jessup in straight sets (25-13, 25-21, 25-13) to improve to an unblemished 4-0 on the year.

The win makes it four consecutive wins by way of sweep and makes it so that through its first four conference matches the Eagles have allowed their opponents just two total set victories.

The road gets a wee bit tougher for the No. 15 Eagles, beginning with challenging road matchups at RV The Master's University and No. 3 Westmont on Tuesday and Saturday of this week.

However, before embarking on that journey Head Coach Aaron Seltzer's team gets to take this weekend to celebrate the early success they've had. Today's victory was again keyed by a solid defensive presence, great passing and even better serving.

The Eagles compiled eight service aces in the match, which doubled up the output from the other side of the floor. Kaitlin O'Brien led the way with four aces of her own, which ties the freshman's season-high.

"We did very well defensively. We had to be very mobile, and they were prepared and ready to do that," said Seltzer. "We also served tough against a weaker receiving team and the girls did a great job of executing everything we talked about."

Biola controlled sets one and three from beginning to end, thanks in large part to the consistency of its attack as it hit higher than .300 in both sets. The middle set was a bit more of a battle as the Eagles hit just .083 and just managed to pull the set win out by scoring eight of the final 11 points of the 25-21 game.

Hannah van Warmerdam and Stephanie Jewett led Biola's hitters with nine kills each. Karly Dantuma was not too far behind with seven of her own. It was another day where Biola could do just about whatever it wanted from the right side as Dantuma and Jewett were able to land the ball consistently.

"The right sides did a great job again," said Seltzer. "That was a good matchup for us. Also, having the setter in the front row was good, and it was a good matchup for Ally."

Ally Forsberg was her usual stalwart self in this one. The junior middle blocker found her way to six kills on just 11 swings and was in on one of the Eagles' nine blocks. It was Biola's other middle, Olivia Sorensen, who controlled the battle at the net by getting in on seven of the nine blocks. That is just one block high from the team's season-high for a player in a single match, which is Sierra Bauder's eight blocks at Hope International.

The win helps Biola move to 13-5 (4-0 GSAC) and drops William Jessup to 5-7 (1-3 GSAC). Biola continues its journey through GSAC play at The Master's at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
