ORANGE, Calif.—Biola Men's Soccer added a new transfer from Santiago Canyon College who is already familiar with this Eagles squad. Gilbert Sotelo, brother of current Eagle Hernan Sotelo, will join the team on the pitch this fall.
 
Sotelo was a four-year varsity member for the Sunny Hills Lancers. The midfielder led the team to multiple CIF playoff appearances and top rankings in Orange County. In his senior year, the Lancers made it to the semifinals of the CIF playoffs and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time in school history.
 
"I immediately fell in love with the campus. It felt like I belonged there," said Sotelo. "Everyone is so friendly and I am seeking to grow my relationship with God."
 
In his junior year Sotelo was an all-league selection and was named the most valuable attacking player on his team. Sotelo's senior year is where he really proved himself to be an elite player in the area. He was named team captain, made the all-league and All-Orange County teams and was named the Freeway League Player of the Year. He was also an All-CIF selection and CIF division and section all-star.
 
He attended Santiago Canyon College where he played one season for the Hawks.
 
He plans to major in kinesiology and hopes to one day teach physical education.
