Oaks Stand Tall Against Eagles

Biola suffered three difficult losses on Saturday afternoon as it slipped to two games back in the race for sixth.

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 ATHERTON, Calif. --- Biola Softball will be very happy to see the friendly confines of Freedom Field when they get back to practice on Monday. This weekend's road trip up north came to a less than savory conclusion on Saturday as the Eagles suffered three GSAC losses to the Menlo Oaks.

The day began as the two teams picked up play in a game that was suspended due to darkness earlier this season. Biola trailed 5-8 as the game resumed in the bottom of the sixth inning. The Eagles could not scratch any more offense together as the teams played to the conclusion in that one and Menlo ended up with a 14-5 victory.

Then, the regularly scheduled doubleheader got underway and the Eagles had a tough time getting anything going against Oaks' game one starter, Jessie Salsbury. Biola scraped together just four hits in five innings, while Menlo scored 10 times in four and the game came to a close with Menlo taking a 10-0 victory in the run-rule shortened ballgame.

The Eagles finally got some offense in the third and fourth innings of the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. Andi Hormel crossed the plate on the benefit of a two-out error in the top of the third and then Kimmy Triolo hit a solo homerun in the top of the fourth for what would be the Eagles' only runs scored in this 4+ game road trip.

Biola lost in five innings again in the nightcap as Menlo scored five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to push that game to 13-2 and earn a run-rule victory. The Eagles left six runners on base in a game that saw a little more offensive life for Head Coach Lorie Coleman's squad.

Good news for Biola is that the team is not mathematically eliminated from playoff contention yet. With two William Jessup losses on Saturday the Eagles only fell to two games behind the Warriors for the final spot in the GSAC Tournament.

Biola falls to 20-27-1 overall and 6-14 in conference play at the conclusion of today's ballgames. Menlo improved to 26-17 (13-7 GSAC) and now sits just one game behind No. 21 Arizona Christian for the conference lead.

The Eagles are back at home for their final home series of the season on Tuesday April 19. Biola will host No. 25 San Diego Christian for a doubleheader and the Eagles will celebrate their seniors Heather Hall, Kendall Maddox, Bria Madrid and Iliana Morales with a pregame ceremony.
