Not A Friendly Day In Phoenix

Its a doubleheader Biola will look to quickly move on from as ACU takes two conference wins on Friday.

Heather Hall drove in Biola's only run of the day in two losses to Arizona Christian.
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 PHOENIX, Ariz. --- Biola Softball dropped both games of a doubleheader at Arizona Christian on Friday afternoon. It was a disappointing start to the Eagles' Arizona road trip that will hopefully take a turn for the better tomorrow at Embry-Riddle.

The Firestorm used a two-out three-run homerun in the bottom of the third inning to finish game one with a 4-0 advantage before exploding for a 9-1 run-rule win in game two.

The two losses extended Biola to a five-game losing streak and dropped the team to under .500 for the first time since Feb. 20. Arizona Christian improved to 11-4-1 overall and continued its red-hot start to the Golden State Athletic Conference season.

The Eagles suffered from an inability to push runners across home plate in both games today. Biola was held to just four hits in the first game as ACU's Jackie Aguilar went the distance to improve to 5-2 on the season. The Eagles got runners in scoring position in the second, third and sixth but could not make anything happen.

It was just the third time this season that Biola's been shutout.

Game two was a game brimming with hope as Terri Van Dagens, who's been the Eagles' ace this season, took the circle.

The Eagles got the shutout monkey off its back immediately with a run in the top of the first. Andi Hormel singled to leadoff the game and Heather Hall singled her home three batters later.

That lead would hold until the bottom of the third as Van Dagens quickly worked through the Firestorm lineup in the firs two innings.

Unfortunately, ACU would figure the sophomore out as the game went along. They got a one-out, two-RBI double in the third and then held onto the lead until walking it off via the run-rule when a Meghan Nelson RBI single extended the lead to 9-1 and ended the game.

All eyes turn to Head Coach Lorie Coleman as its time for her to help her team regroup and realize the potential they have to win these ballgames.

A doubleheader tomorrow could help the team increase their confidence as the Eagles face an Embry-Riddle team that Biola is 9-0 against all-time, including 1-0 this season. That doubleheader begins at 11:00 a.m. pacific time. No live coverage is available so follow @BiolaAthletics on Twitter for updates.
