Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- What a difference 24 hours makes. After a challenging Tuesday evening at home Biola Volleyball bounced back and flipped the script in a big way on Wednesday by dismissing Life Pacific in straight sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-10) to earn its 20
th win of the 2016 season.
Â
The Eagles dominated every facet of the game as it cruised through a match that was exactly what the doctor ordered as Biola tunes up for what should be the biggest match of the season as it hosts The Master's this Saturday evening.
Â
Biola nearly doubled Life Pacific in kills (40-21), recorded an astonishing 13 service aces and combined to double the number of assists the Warriors could muster (40-20).
Â
Brinley Beresford and
Tori Moons were in firm control of the match from start to finish as they set the right attackers at the right time to spread out the Eagles' attack and keep the visiting team from being able to place its defenders in the right spots.
Â
Moons ended with 20 assists and Beresford with 13.
Tess Van Grouw even had more opportunities to set the Eagles' attackers in this one as she recorded five assists for just the fifth time this season.
Â
"It was a good night tonight," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "It was a good bounce back for sure. I like Alyx. I think she did a really good job tonight and Tori did a great job setting her."
Â
Anna Houser was the one who made the biggest difference as a server. The freshman extended her team-leading total of aces to 49 with six of them tonight. Her most notable contribution came in Biola's blowout win in the third set when she scored the team three points in a row with successful serves.
Â
Alyx Dunham had another good match as she led the team with 11 kills and hit .389, which was the best number from a non-middle. The middle that led the way was
Olivia Sorensen. The senior finished the evening with seven kills and a team-high .417 hitting clip.
Â
Biola hit .304 as a team and held their opponents to a .101 number. Life Pacific didn't show much life throughout the match, but did have one player who stood out. Leticia Back de Burlet led their effort with eight kills and a .160 hitting percentage, but was mostly notable because of her ability to play all front row and back row rotation positions well and serve the ball.
Â
The win helps the Eagles improve to 20-9 overall. The team has its biggest match of the season on Saturday night as it hosts The Master's University at 7:00 p.m. A win would tie Biola with the Mustangs for second place in the conference and essentially lock down a national tournament berth for the Eagles.
Â
"It's all about Saturday. Let's get some people to come on out and let's do it," said Seltzer.
Â
Biola fans are encouraged to wear red. It is also the Eagles' senior night, where we will take some time to honor
Olivia Sorensen and
Tori Moons.
