Box Score ROCKLIN, Calif. --- Biola Volleyball completed the first leg of its annual Golden State Athletic Conference Northern California road trip on Friday evening as it worked its way past William Jessup in three sets (25-16, 25-16, 25-18).
Â
The Eagles completed the match in just over an hour and dealt well with any attack opportunity the Warriors threw at them throughout the evening to keep the home team at arms length from start to finish.
Â
"Our defensive trio played outstanding," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "They served, passed and defended really well. They locked things down for us."
Â
The Eagles were so dominant on defense that there were only nine times throughout the entire three-set match that Biola was unable to sideout immediately against the Warriors.
Â
The defense was led by
Tess Van Grouw who kept close to her season-average with 14 digs. She also had one of the Eagles' six service aces.
Kaitlin O'Brien was second in digs and recorded double-digits for the seventh time this season with 10. It is her second match in a row with 10 digs.
Â
"Blocking-wise we also did really well," said Seltzer. "Emily came in and did really well in her first real extended chance this year. They could not get anything past her."
Â
The Eagles ended the match with eight blocks.
Ally Forsberg led the effort by getting in on five blocks in the middle. She was in on one with
Stephanie Jewett that actually ended the first set of the match, which was just the beginning of this strong showing from BU.
Â
Emily Segel was put into the rotation starting in the second set and played all of the third set. It was her first truly extensive experience on the floor in her Biola career as she's been working her way back from injury. She was in on one of the Eagles' eight blocks, but helped the defense out by getting in front of a lot more balls and forcing WJU to tip easy attacks over the net.
Â
Hannah Van Warmerdam was the Eagles' leading attacker on this night. She ended with 13 kills on 28 attacks. She and
Karly Dantuma (10) were the only Eagles to get into double-digit kills in the quick match. It was Van Warmerdam's fourth double-digit kill effort in the last six matches. She's currently leading the team with 290 kills in 2016.
Â
The Eagles improve to 18-8 (9-2 GSAC) while William Jessup falls to 9-14 (2-9 GSAC). Biola completes its NorCal road trip on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. against Menlo College (12-13, 4-7 GSAC).
