LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Janie Takeda brings a big heart, lots of talent and tons of experience with her to her first season as an assistant coach on Head Coach Lorie Coleman's Biola Softball staff.

Takeda comes to the Biola staff following four standout seasons as an outfielder for the University of Oregon. During her time with the Ducks, she led the team to three Pac-12 Conference Championships and three trips to the NCAA Softball World Series.
 
Takeda is a three-time NCAA Division I All-American, all-region and all-conference student-athlete. She graduated from Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism and communications last spring and currently plays outfield for Team USA.
 
"Janie is a true answer to prayer as she has taken on the outfield and slapping portion of the Biola softball program," said Coleman. "The players not only respect her, but they are getting better everyday under her teaching of proper fundamentals and mental game toughness. She is an asset to our coaching staff on and off the field as she joins our mission to make Jesus famous!"
 
Takeda joined the Biola Softball coaching staff because of her desire to combine her love of softball with an active ministry. She primarily works with the left-handed hitters, outfielders and coaching base running.
 
Prior to attending the University of Oregon, Takeda was a four-time all-league player at El Dorado High School in Placentia, Calif. She resides in Placentia and attends Eastside Christian Church in Anaheim, Calif.
 
Catch Takeda, Coleman and the retooled Biola Softball team on the field when their season begins Feb. 5 at La Sierra University in Riverside, Calif. The Eagles' home-opener is a Feb. 12 doubleheader against Azusa Pacific.
