LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Easily one of the top-5 most tense on-field experiences of the 2014-15 school year came on May 2^nd when Biola Softball went toe-to-toe with San Diego Christian in the GSAC Tournament Semifinals with a NAIA National Tournament bid on the line.
 
Biola was ranked inside of the NAIA Coaches' Poll top-25 all season long and had clinched second place in the conference during the regular season, but without an automatic qualifier coming out of the conference tournament an at-large bid would've been near impossible for the then-No. 18 Eagles.
 
That made Ashley Spadt's game winning single in the bottom of the seventh inning a moment of sheer elation for everyone at the field and watching at home. Two and a half hours of back-and-forth play and building tension was immediately relieved when the senior answered the call with what could be the biggest hit of her career.
 
"With Ashley being a senior, it was so appropriate that she had the winning hit," said Head Coach Lorie Coleman.
 
That hit was Spadt's only hit of the game, which, despite the 7-6 final score, was actually a pitcher's dual throughout with the exception of two big innings.
 
The Eagles stormed out to a 4-2 lead as both teams scored in the third inning, but the game was leveled with SDC's four-run top of the sixth and Biola's two-run bottom of the sixth.
 
Reba DePriest shutout the Hawks in the top of the seventh, setting up Biola's 4-5-6-7 hitters with a chance to win the game.
 
Bria Madrid began the seventh with a single down the left-field line. She was followed by Sarah Stromwall, who reached on San Diego Christian's third error of the afternoon. A Kimmy Triolo pop out setup runners on first and second with one out for Spadt's big opportunity.
 
The rest is history as she singled up the middle on the first pitch and punched Biola's ticket into the GSAC Championship game and the NAIA National Tournament.
 
Spadt and the team went on to Alexandria, Louisiana in the NAIA Tournament Opening Round where they made it into the bracket championship game before ultimately falling to No. 2 LSU-Alexandria and ending the season with a 36-20 record.
