HIGHLIGHTS

LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Big bopping and shutdown pitching led to a sizzling performance for Biola in two wins on a steamy day in the La Mirada sun.

The Eagles improved to 4-2 in Golden State Athletic Conference play with two decisive victories over the Hope International Royals, 6-0, 8-3.

Heather Hall had another phenomenal day at the plate, going 3-for-3 with two homeruns, two walks and three RBI before coming out of the game early in the second contest. She hit both homeruns to the same spot in left field and is now tied for second in the NAIA in four-baggers with seven.

Selina Sherlin also added a bomb in the Eagles' second-game victory. She plated three with a deep shot just over the 200 sign in right-center field in the third inning of that one, extending the Eagles' lead to 5-0 at that point.

Biola's staff allowed just three runs over the 14 innings on Saturday, getting solid innings out of  all of its pitchers: Terri Van Dagens, Reba DePriest, Kimmy Triolo and Kendall Maddox.

DePriest and Maddox got the wins, improving to 10-2 and 3-1, respectively. DePriest saw action in both games, compiling 5.0 innings and allowing just three hits, zero earned runs and nine strikeouts, suring up her ERA even more, seeing it lower to 2.11. She also saw time at first base in game two, which was a strange sight, but it resulted in two putouts for the senior hurler.

Triolo also got time in both of the runaway wins, closing out both games to get 3.0 total innings in the circle. She was brilliant, allowing just one hit and bamboozling the HIU hitters with her heat. She got a bunch of half swings resulting in six strikeouts. She's averaging more than nine Ks per nine innings this season.

Back to the bats, as the Eagles combined to average one run per inning in this conference doubleheader, after combining for just 12 runs in four regular-season games against the Royals in 2014.

Kasey Hormel accounted for one-half of the Eagles' six runs in the opener, hitting a bases-clearing triple to get two RBI and scoring a run. She's up to 19 RBI on the season, including 10 in her last eight outings.

Both of the Madrid sisters got one really, really good outing each, with Bria Madrid going 3-for-4 in the opener, scoring one and driving in another, and Brooke Madrid getting two hits in three at bats in the nightcap to score twice.

Hope International never really got close in either of the games because they just couldn't capitalize on the opportunities they had with any consistency. They left 13 runners on base in this one, including getting the bases loaded with no outs and leaving the inning scoreless. Great defense by Sarah Stromwall also killed one Royals' rally, as she speared a line out and relayed quickly to Sherlin at first base to catch a runner sleeping and record an inning-ending double play at one point in game two.

Biola improved to 17-7 (4-2 GSAC) with the victories and Hope International fell to 7-20 (0-6 GSAC) with the losses. The Eagles get back into action with a Tuesday road doubleheader at William Jessup (9-15, 1-3 GSAC).
