COSTA MESA, Calif. --- It was senior day for the Concordia men and women's tennis teams, making a road match with a ranked opponent that much more difficult for Biola, as BU suffered 0-9 losses on both sides.
Â
The women's team went first, facing a No. 14 CUI team that entered the day with a 7-10 overall mark, but a 6-4 record in Golden State Athletic Conference play.
Â
Biola dropped all nine matches, keeping one of the three doubles matches close, but losing in straight sets in all six singles competitions.
Kelsey Post and
Madeline Heer kept pace with Katherin Jensen and Ellie Johnson at No. 1 doubles, losing just 6-8 when no other doubles pairing managed to get within four games.
Â
"It was noted that our players keep the pressure on, which makes Biola tough to beat," said Head Coach
Dee Henry. "The Biola players stayed focused and positive throughout."
Â
The men were up next and had a steep task in facing the No. 9 CUI team. The home Eagles had won five of their previous six matches and held a 10-6 (7-3 GSAC) record entering this one.
Â
They proved every bit as difficult to face as they looked on paper, shutting down Head Coach
Brent Worthington's squad in every matchup, including two 8-0 wins in the doubles competition.
Â
The Concordia men also won in straight sets in every singles match, with no Biola player winning more than four games in any set.
David Garcia had the most consistent performance, winning three games in each of his sets at the No. 6 position.
Â
Biola's women's team falls to 3-14 (2-7 GSAC) with the loss and the men's side dips back under .500 to 10-11 (4-6 GSAC).
Â
The men take the entire spring break to prepare for Vanguard on April 10, while the women travel halfway across the country to play at Missouri Baptist and Graceland (Iowa) in Missouri next Tuesday and Thursday.
