Big Win, Still Questions

The Eagles bounce back after a surprising loss with a big win at San Diego Christian, 74-48

DeMoria White knows how to distribute the ball, but tonight she kept it, going 7-of-8 from the field.
Box Score SAN DIEGO, Calif. --- With five games left in the regular season, this Biola team still defies description or identification. Are they the team that tonight won by 26 points behind a rock solid defense and capable, diverse offense? Or are they the team that against Arizona Christian, and for many nights over the past month, could not buy a basket or quite corral an opposing offense?

In tonight's win against San Diego Christian, the Eagles looked just like the team that steamrolled William Jessup last week and that piled up 11 wins the first two months of the season. The defense locked down, holding the Hawks to just 30.4 percent from the field. In wins this season, Biola's defense has allowed just 33.7 percent shooting on average.

In their loss to Arizona Christian on Tuesday, the Eagles gave up buckets at a 48.1 percent clip, and in all of their losses this season, they are allowing 45.7 percent, which would be one of the ten worst defenses in the NAIA. Chelsea Hill led the way defensively with three blocks. Her blocks put her past Elizabeth Munger and back into first among the Eagles in blocks this season.

On the other end of the floor, Biola soared past the Hawks, connecting on 30-of-54 attempts for their most efficient outing of the season. The 55 percent performance is a 25 percent increase from the Arizona Christian brickfest. This is just the first time in their last six outings that the Eagles shot better than 40 percent.

DeMoria White was sensational, nailing all but one of her eight shots en route to her game-high 14 points. The Eagles had four players finish in double-digits. Khadidja Diakite, Annie Park and Chelsea Hill combined with White to equal San Diego Christian's team total of 48 points.

So, with just six games left, Biola remains mercurial. However, as this win shows, their best is plenty good enough to matchup with anyone left on the schedule. Their next stop on is next Saturday at Hope International (16-9, 7-4 GSAC). Biola improved to 14-11 (6-5 GSAC) with the victory.
