Home, Sweep Home

Biola gets its third 3-0 win of the week at home against William Jessup on Saturday.

Christina DenBoer had a strong afternoon with 11 kills and a couple of blocks.
Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Let the good times roll. No. 1 Biola Volleyball experienced a nonstop good time inside Chase Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon in picking apart William Jessup in straight sets (25-10, 25-11, 25-16).

The Eagles controlled the match from the get-go with their biggest win differential coming in a first set where they made good on a third of their attack attempts and hit nearly .300.

The offense was held up by another afternoon of strong defensive play as Biola did not allow a single service ace to a Warriors team that came into play averaging nearly two per set.

Tess Van Grouw took on the libero role on Saturday after Alex Brehaut took her turn last night. There was absolutely no drop off whatsoever as the sophomore led the team with 11 digs, which was just about half of the amount the entire Jessup team was able to put on the board.

"Defensively we played really well. We are getting better in that area. We are moving better, reading better and doing everything better," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer.

It was Brehaut though that stood out in Biola's 25-11 second set victory. She stood out not as much for what she did defensively, which was still great, but more for the fact that she was the one serving the ball as the Eagles finished the set with 10 points in a row to turn a 15-11 set into the 25-11 final.

Brehaut had no aces in that particular run, but she benefitted from the ridiculously good attacking from her group of middles and outside hitters. Eight of those 10 points came on Biola kills. Six of the eight were delivered by either Joclyn Kirton or Alyssa Mason, who would combine for 24 kills in the match, as Biola finished set two with 19 kills and a .441 hitting percentage.

Mason again led the Eagles with 14 kills, and she again went the entire match without a single attack error. Her .737 attacking percentage today bumped her up to .475 on the season, which is the best in the NAIA. She also got in on a team-best five blocks for good measure.

"Alyssa is a beast," said Seltzer. "She's incredible every night. We're definitely going to need her to show up like this down the stretch."

Set three is a bit closer in the box score because of an incremental improvement in the Jessup attack and a bit of trouble for Biola on the serve. The Eagles had four service errors in the final set. Biola again ended with more service errors than aces at seven to six.

Tori Moons was the bright spot in that arena as she finished with three aces and no errors in the two sets she appeared in.

The win helped Biola improve to 22-2 overall and 11-1 in Golden State Athletic Conference play. They sweep the season-series against William Jessup and improve to 6-0 all-time against the Warriors. WJU falls to 6-17 (1-11 GSAC) following the loss.

Biola hits the road for back-to-back tough matches as it draws The Master's College and No. 16 Westmont on Tuesday and Friday of the upcoming week.
