Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was another quick conference victory for No. 1 Biola Volleyball on Friday night as the Eagles took down the Menlo Oaks in straight sets (25-13, 25-11, 25-18) to improve to 11-0 at home this season.
It was a tremendous defensive effort all around for the Eagles as they held Menlo to just a -.011 hitting percentage with a slew of blocks and some great work by the back row.
The Eagles dominated the net with 11 blocks on the night, including a fantastic five in the first set alone.
Alyssa Mason again stole the show on that front as she posted three solo blocks and three block assists to improve her season total to 69 blocks in just 64 sets.
Also getting in on the block party was
Ally Forsberg and
Britta Blaser who were in on three blocks each as Biola stuffed the Oaks hitters time and time again as it saw right through a slow-developing Menlo attack.
When one or two balls did find its way through Biola's first line of defense the sensational back row was on top of its game again today as Biola posted nearly 40 digs in the three sets.
Alex Brehaut, donning the libero jersey tonight, led the way in the dig category with her 13. It is the senior's 11
th double-digit dig night of the season and fourth in the last five matches.
Both teams struggled in serving the ball as the two sides combined for just six service aces but posted 17 service errors with some miscues riddled throughout the hour-long match.
Tess Van Grouw was the server for the best stretches of the night as she served for six straight points two separate times in the Eagles' runaway win in the second set.
Zero Biola attackers reached double-digit kills on a night when the coaching staff and setters spread the opportunities all over the court. Biola's 41 total kills accounted for only 55 percent of their points on the night, but it was still double the kill output from the visiting Oaks.
Mason and
Joclyn Kirton tied for the most kills in the match with each senior landing nine on the other side of the court. Mason was 9-of-18 without an attacking error, making it two matches in a row she's gone without an error. She's accomplished that feat four times in the previous six matches as she continues to be lights out.
Blaser and
Christina DenBoer also had strong attacking nights with eight and seven kills, respectively.
Biola improves to 21-2 (10-1 GSAC) with the victory, while the Oaks' tough season continues as they fall to 6-16 (1-10 GSAC). Biola is back in Chase Gym tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 p.m. to face William Jessup (6-16, 1-10 GSAC) which just took Hope International to five sets in a loss tonight.
