HIGHLIGHTS & INTERVIEWS
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After a four-game hiatus, the Eagles are back in the win column.
Annie Park broke out for 19 points to spark a recently lackluster Biola offense, and the team followed suit, scoring the most points it has in a game since Jan. 10.
Â
Making as many, or more, threes than the entire team did in 10 games this season, Park's five first half three-pointers carried the Eagles to a 38-18 first half lead and, with Biola's defense rolling, all but ended the game. Â
Â
"We started out really strong in the first half. Our girls relied on our principles and discipline and what we need to do to execute good, Biola basketball," said Head Coach
Dr. Bethany Miller. "I saw our starting group and
Dani Kennedy, coming off the bench, really execute what we needed to do offensively and play consistently on defense."
Â
Park's scoring stopped at halftime, but the defense carried through into the second half to keep the game well out reach on the way to the 28-point win. The Warriors were held to just 27 percent shooting from the floor as the Eagles' guards and forwards shut down their one-on-one matchups routinely throughout the contest.
Biola then gobbled up the Warriors misses, outrebounding the Warriors by 24 boards.
Elizabeth Munger led all rebounders with 16 boards, a new season-high for any Biola player.
Chelsea Hill chipped in with 13 points and 10 rebounds of her own, while
Dani Kennedy set her personal-best with seven total rebounds.
Â
"Our posts each ending with a double-double is great. We need that kind of consistency from our forwards," said Miller. "We're really proud of Liz [Munger], and the way she battled the whole game. We need to keep playing that solid to beat good teams."
Â
The Eagles have excellent chances to follow their losing streak with a winning streak as they face the bottom of the Golden State Athletic Conference standings for the next three games. They will need to take their rejuvenated offense with them away from Chase Gymnasium, playing on the road for three straight matchups. The road trip starts Tuesday at Arizona Christian and is just the seventh game left in the regular season.
