Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- In most games this season, the Eagles' frontcourt is either bigger, better or both when matching up with opposing forwards. Tonight was not one of those nights.
Â
The No. 9 Concordia Eagles hammered Biola in the paint, controlling it on both ends on way to an 87-56 victory. The towering Concordia squad outscored Biola in the paint, 54-16, and with the win, they take firm control of the Golden State Athletic Conference as the last team without a loss in conference play.
Â
Concordia's Ashley Ellis is six-feet-four-inches tall. She finished 7-of-7 from the field with seven rebounds. Biola's
Chelsea Hill, Biola's dominant forward, has a three-inch size disadvantage to Ellis, and would finish just 2-of-7 for four total points and two rebounds. She would combine with
Elizabeth Munger and
Taylor Casey to shoot just 5-of-28 against Concordia's four forwards, whose shortest member would be Biola's tallest player.
It was a tough shooting night all-around for the Eagles, who shot just 29 percent as a team, while allowing the home team to make 54 percent of their shots.
Â
The lone bright spots for Biola in this one were two bench players who have been making waves as of late. Building on their catalyst role in Tuesday's big win,
DeMoria White and
Dani Kennedy gave the offense what they could, combining for 23 points and eight assists. White's 12 points led the Eagles and tie her season-high. Her 2-of-3 performance from behind the arc could signal an expanding offense game for the normally slashing guard.
Â
Kennedy, meanwhile, has carved out a role for herself since the winter vacation, seeing her minutes jump from nearly eight per game to fifteen in the seven games since returning from semester break. Her performance tonight marks the third game of the last four that she has reached double figures scoring after no such performances prior.
Â
The loss does blemish Biola's previously clean GSAC record, but they still remain in second place behind Concordia at 4-1 in conference play. However, the Eagles face another tough test on Saturday as they travel to No. 13 Vanguard (11-4, 4-2 GSAC).
