Box Score Fullerton, CALIF. ---The Eagles continue to impress, steamrolling Golden State Athletic Conference opponent Hope International, 2-0, at their place, with just a single shot attempt allowed.
The win pushes the women's team to 8-1 overall and 2-0 since starting conference play. The 2-0 victory marks the fifth shutout posted by the defense, while the offense continues to capitalize, scoring two or more goals in all but two contests in 2014.
Taylor Venegas continues to shine, tallying her sixth goal of the season. The sophomore has settled nicely into her target forward role, finishing a great ball from
Jessie Burns just six minutes into this match to give Biola an early lead.
Venegas is scoring with blistering efficiency, finding the back of the net an average of once every 4.5 shots. For context, Rianne Schorel's Biola single-season goal record of 16 comes out to an average of once every 4.5625 shots.
Speaking of efficiency,
Ashley Ramirez served as a spark at both ends of the pitch in just 42 minutes of work. Playing just half the game to stay fresh for the whole season, Ramirez pressured opponents into turnovers and those turnovers allowed her to turn and push up field. In the 88th minute, she was able to take a turnover, knife through the defense and notch the fourth goal of her increasingly impressive freshman season. Her four goals put her on pace to break the Biola women's soccer freshman record.
Biola has been impressive throughout the season but has yet to hit the meat of its schedule as Arizona Christian and Hope International filled out the bottom of the GSAC standings last year.
Biola gets a chance to prove they are for real this season with a titular matchup against No. 2 Westmont (7-2, 2-1) at Al Barbour Field on Tuesday. Last year's match ended in a draw, so the Eagles will be itching to show off their new firepower.
