Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's offense came out flying, with crisp, clean passes finding the open feet, and heads, of teammates all over the field and leading to two scores in the first 17 minutes of play. Following those two quick strikes, Biola's offense went quiet and Antelope Valley's defense tightened up for the final 70-plus minutes, leading to a 2-0 final.
 
John Hanscom got the Eagles on the board early in this one, scoring in just the 11^th minute off a goal-line cross from Marshall Deogracia. It was Hanscom's second goal in the first three matches of 2014.
 
Just six minutes later Stephen Tanquary followed in Hanscom's footsteps by netting one in the back right corner of the goal. He scored his team-leading third goal of the season after a takeaway and long through-ball from Clayton Mohler set him up in the box.
 
The Eagles two quick strikes left the Pioneers playing on their heels and kept them from advancing the ball to their offensive third and getting a shot until the 24^th minute.
 
It was this lead and sense of defensive confidence that led to a shift in the Eagles' execution in the latter portion of the second half and throughout the rest of the match.
 
"I am pleased with the win, any win is good," said Head Coach Todd Elkins. "But I think we eased up a little bit following the second goal, and I think we did not play as sharp. I was disappointed with that, because we never really played as well in the game after the first 20 minutes."
 
The Eagles play throughout the remainder of the match was reminiscent to their play in the latter portion of the first half in their match against Bethesda a week ago. In similar fashion, Biola got a very quick, even quicker than tonight, 2-0 lead and then sat back and did not score again until a good chunk into the second half.
 
Biola has proven early on that it can score, and score often, but perhaps what we saw tonight was a little bit of a lack of a desire to continue scoring. Credit is due to UAV, who tightened up on defense late too, although it may not have helped solve all their problems.
 
"The other team did well defending after the two-goal lead, but I think it started with us allowing them to get back in the game," said Elkins. "The other team had to spend a lot of their time defending us, so they did ok at times possessing the ball, but they never really spent a lot of energy attacking. They were a bit cautious, because they did not want to give up more goals."
 
JT Addington earned his first shutout of the season, and he added three saves to his season tally in the process. Biola had the upper hand offensively throughout the night, outshooting the Pioneers, 25-4.
 
The No. 24 Eagles improve to 2-0-1 on the season and get ready for a long road trip next. They travel to Prescott, Arizona, and then to San Marcos, California, only to go back to Phoenix, Arizona before playing another home match. The road trip begins with matches with Our Lady of the Lake (TX) and Embry-Riddle (AZ), hosted by Embry-Riddle.
