Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- Biola got its season back on track on Saturday morning with an impressive four-set (25-23, 21-25, 25-13, 25-12) victory over Great Falls (Mont.).
Â
The team was inconsistent through the first two sets, allowing the Argos to stay in the match and earn a split.
Â
"We struggled to get into a good rhythm in game one, and we were just very fortunate to pull that game out," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer.
Â
Alyssa Mason and
Amy Weststeyn dominated the attack, choosing good spots and each earning four kills on 10 attacks with no attacking errors.
Joclyn Kirton also laid down the hammer to earn five kills in the set, albeit at a lower attack percentage.
Â
Biola limited mistakes throughout the set, and they hit the ball a ton to pick up a season-high 19 kills.
Â
Set two was a rough one as Biola coupled nine attacking errors and five service errors with a dominant six blocks from the resilient Great Fall squad.
Â
Set three and four highlighted the Biola team that is usually seen on the court, as they got contributions from all over to cruise through the final two frames. The Eagles put together their best scoring differential for back-to-back sets of the season en route to the victory.
Â
"We got extremely outplayed in game two, but we were able to get through set three and four thanks to consistent passing and setting," said Seltzer.
Â
Ashton Arbuthnot and
Allison Spencer were both on point through the final two games, combining for 24 assists and limiting themselves to just two setting errors in the match. Spencer got the majority of the work, grabbing a season-best 36 assists in the match.
Â
Mason, Weststeyn and Kirton led the attack for the Eagles, each notching double-digit kills, while
Lauren Hoenecke had another very good match subbing in for Weststeyn. She picked up four kills, and hit .571 on her seven attacks.
Â
The win pushes No. 8 Biola to 6-2 and dropped the Argos to 5-3. Biola continues play against Olivet Nazarene tonight at 8:00 p.m.
