Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- After an unexpected, and very unconventional, loss in an early meeting with San Diego Christian, Biola cements its standing in the Golden State Athletic Conference with a remarkable 8-0 win over Hope International.
The double was key in Biola's eight-run rule victory, as the Eagles picked up four two-baggers in its runaway win. Meanwhile,
Reba DePriest regained her dominance in the circle, as she did not allow a single extra-base hit to the Royals.
She went the distance in a five-inning contest and got her 17
th win of the season, securing Biola's spot in tomorrow morning's 11:30 a.m. affair that will decide who joins No. 1 Concordia in the GSAC Tournament Championship at 2 p.m. Biola will rematch with San Diego Christian in that contest.
DePriest used the five shutout innings to regain control over her season ERA and drop it to 0.45. She retired HIU's batters by inducing contact to save her arm for tomorrow's action, as she only had one strikeout in the contest.
The Eagles' offense primarily came in a huge bottom of the fifth inning. They scored six and only get one out in the frame as RBI hits came courtesy of
Ashley Spadt,
Bria Madrid,
Iliana Morales,
Kasey Hormel and
CeCe Luster.
"Everything that was missing in the early game was found in the second game," said Head Coach
Lorie Coleman. "We made some key adjustments to our lineup, which resulted in more runs early in the game."
Hormel had a fantastic day, proving why she is a valuable asset to Head Coach
Lorie Coleman even as a freshman. She went 2-for-3 with three RBI in a pinch-hit role in game one and starting role in game two.
Biola also picked up single runs in the third and fourth innings, solidifying the team effort by coming off the bats of Hormel and
Brooke Madrid.
"We did a better job at situational hitting in this game," said Coleman. "Also, freshman
Kasey Hormel was fantastic all day long and Reba settled in to pitch in her usual spectacular way. We hope to take this win into tomorrow's game against SDCC and do a better job."
Biola's confidence should be skyrocketing as they head into tomorrow's rematch following this big win. The Eagles had a chance to scout San Diego Christian, as the Hawks played a deciding game against Concordia immediately following biola getting this win.
Hope International is eliminated from the tournament following the loss.
