SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --- It was a rough road trip weekend for the Eagles, as they end their regular season with two 9-0 losses against Westmont's ranked programs.
The women's team got the weekend started with a Friday afternoon loss to the No. 11 Warriors. Biola put forth a solid effort as they faced some of the top talent in the NAIA, but could not win a single match.
Kathryn Ashford and
Susan Carmichael again came the closest to notching a match-win for the Eagles, as they forced Haley Strandness and Jessica Cedillo into a 9-7 double match.
The effort was matched only by the amount of sportsmanship the Eagles put forth in a long day's losing effort.
"The Westmont players were impressed with not only our players' ability to hit right with them during points, but also their outstanding sportsmanship," said Head Coach
Dee Henry. "Now that is how we want our team to be remembered."
The men's squad had just as difficult as a go at it on Saturday morning, when they had the pleasure of facing Westmont's No. 4 men's squad that has four nationally ranked players in its lineup.
The Eagles' rackets could get no traction against the Warriors as all but two of the sets were decided by a differential of four games or more.
Isaiah Pekary and Luke Mountain were the two Eagles able to get closest to a match victory, but in the end they fell victim to straight-set losses just like their teammates.
The losses end Biola's regular season and leave both teams looking forward to make some noise in the Golden State Athletic Conference tournament next week.
Both Eagles teams will fall among the bottom four seeds and will begin tournament play April 15 at Westmont. Official matchups and seeds will be decided this weekend.
