LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola faced an uphill battle in their home match against No. 11 Concordia on Thursday afternoon, and the team just did not have the traction to climb the hill, losing 9-0.
Â
It was not a total wipeout though, as Biola hung tough in many of the points across all of the singles matches. There were only two sets that ended as 6-0 wins for Concordia, a sign of positive growth for the Eagles' individual competitors.
Â
Lucas Lee definitely made the hardest charge on the afternoon, forcing extra points in his second set against CUI's No. 1 Christian Wickenhauser. Wickenhauser was an All-GSAC member last season and is currently ranked No. 20 in the nation.
Â
Lee pushed him to the brink in the first set as well, picking up three points before falling 6-3.
Â
Tayven Townsend and
Brandon Chang also managed to scrape out some points and remain competitive at No. 4 and No. 5 singles. They each avoided getting swept in both their sets and combined to tally nine points against their opponents. They were facing solid competition as well, as Severin Diemand and Kaimalu Cope combine for a 6-3 match record in GSAC play this season.
Â
Townsend and
Isaiah Pekary put up a fight at the No. 1 doubles spot, getting four points off of CUI's solid top pair.
Â
At the end of the day it is still a loss, and despite the hard-working effort put forth by the players Biola drops to 3-5 (2-3 GSAC) on the young season.
Â
They get a chance to get back in the action today with a home match against University of the Southwest at 2 p.m.
