LA MIRADA, Calif. --- In the midst of their difficult season, Biola women's tennis is rewarded for its continued fight with a 7-2 win over Hope International.
That fight was on display in
Paige Erickson and
Susan Carmichael's deciding matches at No. 5 and No. 3 singles. Both women fought back from first set losses to win their matches, and they helped secure the victory for Biola as two of the final three singles matches to finish up.
The Royals' lone singles match win came in a tight contest between HIU's Corinna Ramos and
Kelsey Post. Ramos grinded out her two sets 8-6 and 7-6 in a back-and-forth affair.
"Last time we faced this team we lost 6-3," said Head Coach
Dee Henry. "The girls are playing well and playing smart. They are making adjustments to become more than just one-dimensional."
The doubles competition followed form as well, with Biola winning two of the three matches.
Susan Carmichael and
Kathryn Ashford again utilized their complementary playing styles to get each other in a position to win games and ultimately take their match 8-1.
Lauren Vogel and Post combined for the other win for Biola, using solid net play to take another 8-1 victory. The pair improved to 6-4 on the season after getting their first win together since March 8.
"They are setting things up and that is beautiful. I love it when we win at the net," said Henry. "Our matches were all very competitive today on both sides. It could have gone either way, but our girls just played tougher."
The Eagles face the Pacific University Boxers (1-7) at 10 a.m. on Friday at the Biola Tennis Center.
