LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola falls to 0-3 after another big loss, this time to conference foe Westmont.
Â
The Warriors entered the match ranked No. 12 in the NAIA top 25 poll. Westmont beat Biola in all nine of the matches, sweeping the singles and doubles competitions. This becomes Biola's first shutout loss of the season.
Â
Despite being physically overmatched, the Eagles fought hard to stay strong in the mental game.
Â
"Our players showed great patience today," said Head Coach
Dee Henry. "They stayed positive and fought hard."
Â
Susan Carmichael played well at the No. 2 spot. She was the closest to taking a set off her Westmont counterpart. She had to show intense grit throughout her contest, already knowing Biola was down 8-0 while she was playing.
She pushed Westmont's Kate Stratman all the way to a one-point loss(7-6) in their first set. That was the closest she has come to taking a set all season. Their second set was not as close, as Carmichael was able to put up just two points in the second half of their battle.
Â
She and
Kelsey Post were also a part of the closest doubles competition of the afternoon. They pushed to an eventual 8-4 loss at No. 2 doubles. The other doubles matches were both decided by at least a six-point difference.
Â
Biola will continue its search for its first win of the season as it hosts Arizona Christian next Saturday.
