Eagles Engulf The Firestorm

Biola used strong shooting from deep and great free-throw shooting to down Arizona Christian.

Chelsea Hill led the Eagles with 12 rebounds and nearly had her first double-double of the year.
Box Score PHOENIX, Ariz. --- The Eagles are on an absolute roll. They have won eight of their last 14 games, and, after a win over Arizona Christian on Tuesday, are nearly to the point where they have a winning record in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

Biola rode a fantastic first half to a big win over the Firestorm, defeating ACU 66-49. With the win, Biola is now 3-0 all-time against Arizona Christian.

The Eagles improve to 8-15 overall after the night, and they sit at 3-4 in conference play. Arizona Christian falls to 5-16 (0-7 GSAC).

"Tonight was a good road win. We played good team basketball," said Head Coach Dr. Bethany Miller. "We are excited to keep working hard as we head into the second round of GSAC play."

The Eagles outscored Arizona Christian by 14 points in the first 20 minutes. Kiara Clark hit five three-point shots in the first half to boost Biola to 36 points. She scored half of the team's scoring output in the half. She ended the night with 22 points, a new career-high.

The three-point shot was instrumental throughout the night for Biola. They shot the ball 28 times from beyond the arc and got 33 of their 66 points from deep.

Clark made six of those three-point shots and Shonnel Hoyt tacked on two more as they both put in big nights and saw lots of minutes for the Eagles.

The Eagles continued their stretch of great free-throw shooting by going 13-16 from the line. The team has shot above 75 percent from the charity stripe in eight of their last 10 games.

Biola got good production from its bench, garnering 19 points from players outside of their starters. Part of the reason for the high point output was their ability to pull back the reigns a little bit after building such a commanding lead.

ACU had an early lead in the first half, but once Biola came back and regained the lead just after four minutes in, they never again surrendered it.

It was a complete team effort that allowed Miller to get some minutes for some of her lesser utilized players.

"Kiara Clark shot the ball well. Shonnell Hoyt played some strong minutes, and our posts worked hard on the inside," said Miller.

The win helps push Biola into fifth place in the conference, and they are now just two games outside of the top half of the standings.

They will square off with the No. 1 team in the nation on Saturday night, as they host Vanguard at 5:30 p.m.

The contest will be part of a Biola "Red Sea Night," as all fans are encouraged to wear red.
