LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola suffered its second consecutive setback with its 8-1 loss to NCAA Division II's No. 13-ranked Fresno Pacific Sunbirds on Tuesday.
Â
Despite the loss, the season continues to be a positive one for Head Coach David Goodman and his team, as they continue to see growth and have already equaled their win total from all of last year.
Â
The Eagles' lone point on the day came with a convincing win at the No. 1 doubles spot.
Â
Tayven Townsend and
Isaiah Pekary combined to get their first doubles win of the season in their third try together. They defeated Kyle Rowe and Thomas Gely of FPU in a solid 8-4 showing.
Â
Twonsend and Pekary, along with the rest of the team, did not do so well in the singles competition. Outside of Biola's No. 1 and No. 6, every Eagles' singles player had at least one 6-0 loss in a set.
Â
Lucas Lee put forth a solid effort in the No. 1 spot, fighting to 6-4 and 6-3 losses to the Sunbirds' No. 1, Michael Tymkiw.
Greg Cobian was the only other Eagle to not suffer a 6-0 loss, but he did still suffer a two-set setback (6-2, 6-1) to FPU's Daniel Gianopulos.
Â
It was the third time this season that the Eagles failed to pick up a single set in singles play.
Â
Biola gets back into action Feb. 25 with a road match against Hope International. The first action of that Golden State Athletic Conference match begins at 2 p.m.
