Box Score EL CAJON, Calif. --- Biola rode one of its most magnificent second half shooting performances of the season to a 12-point win over San Diego Christian on Tuesday night.
They win moves Biola to 9-16 on the season, and helps the team solidify its fifth place standing in the Golden State Athletic Conference.
Chelsea Hill and
Adijat Adams combined for 35 points as the Eagles outscored the Hawks, 67-55.
The huge second half made all the difference, as Biola enhanced what was just a 20-point first half into a solid in-conference win. The eagles shot 65.2 percent from the floor after halftime, and shot just under 50 percent from deep as they worked to overcome a six-point Hawks advantage.
Adams had a huge night, performing very efficiently from the floor, and crusing to 22 points and nine boards. She was especially consistent in the second half, putting up 18 of her points off a 7-8 shooting performance.
"We had excellent efficiency from Adijat, and great team play in the second half to pick up a good road win against a quality team," said Head Coach
Dr. Bethany Miller.
Hill and Adams combined to go 14-20 from the floor on the evening, and Hill even tacked on a rare three-point shot.
The second half began negatively for Biola, as the team watched the Hawks improve their lead to 10 points early on. After this, the Eagles went to work and carved into the lead immediately. They made five straight field goals and a free throw to take a two-point lead with 16 minutes to play.
From that point on it was all about continuing to hit shots. The Eagles maintained their high-accuracy in the half, making it impossible for the Hawks to gain any traction as Biola enhanced its lead. A 9-2 run headed to the halfway point of the second frame was key to extending the lead out of the reach of San Diego Christian for good.
The 12-point lead that Biola ended the game with was its biggest lead of the game, as the team continued to trend upward late in the contest. The Eagles scored the last five points of the game to pull away from the Hawks after they pulled within seven in the final minute.
The Eagles find themselves in a good spot late in the season, just two games out of the top four in the conference. They have two games remaining against teams lower than them in the conference, which should help their case.
The Eagles win helped them improve to 4-5 in conference play and dropped the Hawks to 10-12 (1-8 GSAC).
Biola comes home this weekend to host No. 9 The Master's on Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. The game will be another "Biola Blackout" as fans are encouraged to wear all black.
