Box Score COSTA MESA, Calif. --- Biola's Golden State Athletic Conference season is over. It took until 27 the seconds into second overtime, but Vanguard scored the first goal of the game and perhaps the last goal of the Eagles' season. The Eagles are still eligible for an at-large bid to the NAIA tournament, but it is out of their hands, and feet, now.
Â
After 100 minutes of fierce, stalemated play, it seemed like the game was destined for a last-second or shootout finish. Instead, 27 seconds into the second overtime Ashley McCutheon played the ball to an unmarked Nicole Dunn at least 15 yards before the box. Dunn wound up and uncorked a magnificent shot that just snuck off the bottom of the crossbar to bounce in across the goal plane.
Â
If this was the last game of the season for the Eagles, the immensely difficult loss should not obscure a tremendous match and season. The stats for this game are nearly equal apart from the final score. Eagles led in shots 13-12, saves 8-7 and corners, 4-3.
Taylor Venegas, a sophomore, again proved dangerous, getting five shots with two on target, but a tough Vanguard defense paired with a lights-out, seven save performance by Vanguard's keeper, Lauren Terry, a five-time GSAC Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Â
The season for the Eagles is easily one of the best in program history and an easy argument for best season in a decade. This season trails only the 2003, 14-5-1, and 2004, 16-2-1, seasons for total wins and win percentage. An NAIA bid would keep the chase to match those seasons still alive. It was also a season that saw Biola climb all the way up to No. 8 in the national rankings, before injuries and slumps threatened to derail the Eagles' season.
Â
For the seniors, it was a particularly impactful year as
Miranda Starbeck,
Shea Davis and
Michelle Clark all put in career years. However,
Amanda Lillicrop and
Briana Williams put in career years in what are remarkable Biola careers. Lillicrop moves into the top-10 in career assists and just outside of the top-10 in games played for the Eagles. Williams, meanwhile, positively litters the record book now. In just three seasons with Biola, she would finish in the top-five in save percentage, average goals allowed per game, saves and wins. She also finishes second Biola all-time for most shutouts in a career with 21 total.

The final MRPI rankings and NAIA Tournament bids are released Nov. 16.
