Local Speedster Set To Round Bases With Biola

Marissa Reyes will join the Eagles in spring 2016.

COVINA, Calif.—Marissa Reyes recently committed to join the Biola softball program and hopes to continue both her athletic and academic excellence at the collegiate level.

Reyes has started on varsity in each of her three previous years at South Hills High School, and she has played travel ball for the past 10 years.

In her junior season at South Hills, Reyes hit .342 wit h 17 runs scored and 11 RBI. She coupled that with a great glove in the middle infield, .929 fielding percentage, and good speed, 12 stolen bases.

Off the field she has maintained a 4.0 cumulative grade point average throughout high school and intends on majoring in biology/pre-med at Biola, with hopes of becoming a physician assistant. She has twice been selected as Academic All-League and been on the principal's honor roll each year.

"I chose Biola because the softball girls made me feel at home and like I was part of the family from the first day I met them," said Reyes. "To me, that was my sign that I was home! To be able to attend such a prestigious school with a strong Christian foundation is all one can ask for."

Outside of her high school career, Reyes has played travel softball for years. She is currently a member of the Firecrackers 18 Gold, coached by Head Coach Chris Young. She's played under Young since little league and attributes her development as a player to him and his staff.

"What first caught our eye about Marissa, was her speed on the bases, but after scouting her on the field, we realize she is going to be a great asset to our defensive program as well," said Biola Head Coach Lorie Coleman.

Reyes will take the field for the Eagles in spring 2016, when she is sure to have quite the little cheering section with her three younger sisters and parents, Eric and Kristen.
