HIGHLIGHTS & INTERVIEWS
LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola did what it was supposed to do on its senior night, win, and win in a big way. The Eagles again earned a three-set sweep (25-14, 25-21, 25-10) and attacked remarkably well against an improving Hawks team.
Biola's trio of seniors again took all of the spotlight, enjoying their last match inside of Chase Gymnasium.
Jaci Schork played the game as libero and ended with six digs and a service ace.
Charley Parker added seven digs of her own, and
Amy Weststeyn led the team in kills (11) and even saw some time in the back row herself, grabbing five digs.
"Tonight was so much fun," said Schork. "Charley, Amy and I were excited to just go out and have a blast and I think we all played really well. It was great to end on such a good note."
Biola held the lead throughout most of the contest, trailing by one point at three different occasions in the second set and that is it. Strong hitting and great setting was consistent throughout the night as the Eagles powered their way to 42 kills in just 78 attacks.
"Our seniors played awesome. They were all over the place," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "Everyone else wanted to play really well for them, which was good. They did a nice job. San Diego Christian is much improved. They are getting better and are much better than they used to be."
Ashley Simpson had the biggest impact for the Hawks, matching Weststeyn with 11 kills while hitting .233 and adding two blocks.
The Eagles outblocked the Hawks, 8-4, thanks in large part to a four-block first set.
Alyssa Mason and Lauren Hoeneck powered that blocking force, getting in on four blocks each.
Allison Spencer saw the majority of the time at setter, putting up 25 of the Eagles' 40 total assists. The 13.3 assists per set average from tonight will keep Biola's setters among the top-10 in total numbers in the nation.
The Eagles are done with play at Chase Gymnasium and improve to 24-4 (12-1 GSAC), but they still have plenty of work to do on the road as they finish up the regular season slate over the next two weeks.
They've got four more matches, beginning with a match at Westmont on Nov. 4 at 7:00 p.m.
