Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- The days are winding down as Biola approaches its final home game of the 2014 volleyball season. That set a perfect tone for the Eagles' seniors to excel in the match just one night prior to senior night.
Â
Strong performances from
Jaci Schork,
Charley Parker,
Amy Weststeyn and others led to a 3-0 (25-15, 27-25, 25-16) win over Arizona Christian on Friday night. The win is Biola's 11
th straight and 15
th this season by way of the sweep. The Eagles improve to 6-0 all-time against the Firestorm with the Halloween night win.
Â
"I thought our seniors played very good tonight. I thought Charley did a good job at libero. Jaci did a great job serving and played libero later in the match," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "They're excited for their last couple of home matches and it is typical of what we see of seniors."
Â
Parker spent the first two sets and libero and raked in a team-high 12 digs. Biola shared the wealth on defense, with 10 players having at least one dig and four having four or more.
Â
Schork was one of the players who had four or more. She served as the third-set libero and brought in five digs in the match. She also had three service aces on the night, a new personal season-high.
Â
The Eagles' third senior,
Amy Weststeyn, had a typical Weststeyn performance, picking up 10 kills, hitting nearly .600 and adding a few blocks in a relatively routine night for the Eagles.
Â
The only part of the match that was not so routine was a very tight third set that showed some big signs of growth by the Arizona Christian team. The Firestorm had the Eagles on the brink with two set points in the second set but could not close the deal.
Â
"Arizona Christian was much improved over the last time we played them," said Seltzer. "I thought they were a lot scrappier and served really tough. They played with a lot of passion and heart. It was a good match."
Â
Alyssa Mason led Biola in kills with 11 and
Allison Spencer parlayed a strong second and third set into 21 assists to lead Biola in that category.
Â
It was another solid all-around team effort as the Eagles continue to gel at the exact right time. The win improves their overall record to 23-4 and Golden State Athletic Conference mark to 11-1.
Â
Tomorrow night is senior night as the Eagles host San Diego Christian (9-13, 4-8 GSAC) at 7:00 p.m. inside Chase Gymnasium.
