LA MIRADA, Calif. ---
Amanda Lillicrop and
Margaret Guadarrama played the heroines today with three goals and a locked down midfield between them. Lillicrop's two goals move her into a tie with
Taylor Venegas for most goals on the team (6). It also puts her at 15 points overall, already just five short of
Chrissy King's team-high 20 in 2013. For Guadarrama, this is her second straight game with a goal after she netted Tuesday's game-winner against No. 8 Westmont, pushing her to three goals on the season, and her gorgeous crossfield through ball to setup Lillicrop's first goal gives Guadarrama two assists on the season.
Â
Between the two of them it would be a tough call who offensively impacted the game more," said Head Coach
Todd Elkins. "Our team has multiple players that can step up and be that player for us as a ball winner or a setup player or finishing that goal we need. We got it from those two tonight."
Â
The Eagles could have really lit up the scoreboard had a ball bounced better a few times. They racked up 34 shots, thoroughly dominated possession in the final third, and pushed hard on the break. To single out one instance, Biola caught the Warriors goalie trying to intercept a through ball in the edge of the midfield, and Venegas' shot bounced just left of an empty net. Chances like this and the overall play of the offense gave the Eagles confidence even after allowing William Jessup to fight back to 2-1 game in the second frame.
Â
"I think we did some good things…We didn't take care of the ball around our goal when it came to crosses or free kicks that were dumped in and that was the difference [in the defending]," said Elkins. "Based on the footholds we made earlier in the game even when we gave up that goal, I felt like it didn't shake us too much."
Â
The 4-0 start in GSAC and 10-1 overall record are both the best starts by an Elkins-led women's soccer team, and they are among the best starts in program history. In fact, it is just the third time in the last 10 years a Biola women's soccer team reaches 10 wins. Their dominance extends beyond the record and score as this game marks the fifth game that Biola has put up 20 or more shots while holding their opponent to less than 10.
Â
The Eagles end their three-game defense of Al Barbour Field on Wednesday against No. 9 The Master's College.
