LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola's outside hitters lived up to there name, hitting nearly no balls outside of the lines as they led a super Biola attack that hit .488 in a three-set sweep over The Master's College. The Eagles' 47 kills in 84 attacks led to the third-highest attacking percentage in a single match in Biola program history, dating back to 1969.
Â
"This was one of the best all-around offensive performances I've seen in a long time," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "I am very, very proud of how well they played."
Â
Joclyn Kirton led the way with 13 kills in just 16 attack attempts. It was the most efficient match the NAIA All-American has had in all of 2014. She led the team in kills, followed by
Alyssa Mason with 10. The 13 kills from Kirton is the third-highest total by a Biola player in a three-set match this season. She hit .750, which is tied with
Amy Weststeyn (8/16/14) for the best single-match mark of the year.
Â
The outside hitters were fed from the Eagles' duo of setters, who were equally as efficient, making just two setting errors in the match. Biola's attackers made just six attacking errors off those sets, which is the best mark of the 2014 season.
Â
Biola dominated the match from wire-to-wire, evidenced most particularly by a blazing start to the third set. The Eagles came out firing and won the first seven points in a row before eventually clinching the match with a 25-17 score in that deciding set.
Â
A lot of long volleys took place later in that game, forcing Biola's hitters to take matters into their own hands. Eighteen of the Eagles' 25 points in that final set came via the kill.
Â
"That's a good Master's team," said Seltzer. "I thought they were prepared, they were focused and a great week of practice turned out a great match, so hats off to them."
Â
Biola's dominating performance keeps them maintaining a firm grip on second place in the conference with a 15-4 (5-1 GSAC) record. The Master's drops to 12-8 (3-4 GSAC).
Â
The Eagles are back in action just two days from now for a Saturday afternoon home showdown with William Jessup at 2 p.m.
