Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It was a tough night for Biola as No. 21 Hope International took over Chase Gymnasium. The Eagles fought hard and forced eight different lead changes throughout the game, but they eventually lost pace near the end of the second half and lost, 82-70.
Â
"Tonight was a tough night without our starting point guard," said Head Coach
Dr. Bethany Miller. "We had too many turnovers that Hope turned into points and that made the difference in the game."
Â
Biola's inability to keep control of the ball was a persistent issue throughout the night, as they coughed the ball up 26 times, second most in a single game this season.
Â
Their loss was for the gain of the Royals, who put up 30 points off their recovered turnovers. Miller is right when she notes that it made all the difference, Biola scored just eight points off of turnovers, accounting for a 22-point difference.
Â
It was an excellent game throughout the first half, highlighted by some solid shooting by the Eagles and some misjudged attempts by the Royals. The difference in the shooting percentage was made up for by the turnovers, as the two teams were within just two points of one another at the end of the half.
Â
Andrina Rendon was the high-scorer on the night, but she made her mark most in the first half when she put up 14 of her 24 points. A big difference was her ability to get to the free throw line and sink the shots. She went 6-8 from the charity stripe in the first half and 11-14 in the game.
Â
The Royals stormed out of the gate in the second half, scoring the first seven points to build themselves a comfortable nine-point lead. They continued to build from there, eventually getting the lead up to a game-high 16 points.
Â
The Eagles stuck around and pushed all the way back to within five with just over a minute remaining, but some missed three-point shots and a turnover by Biola, and a bunch of made free throws by HIU helped the Royals score the last seven points and walk away with the 12-point victory.
Â
"Hope is an excellent team, and we will need to improve our ball control statistics in order to beat ranked teams like them and The Master's," said Miller.
Â
Adijat Adams once again led the Eagles with her 20 point, 21 rebound performance, and
Aubree Mittel had a solid first game back, with 15 points.
Â
Biola falls to 6-15 (1-4 GSAC) and the Royals improve to 15-4 (4-1 GSAC). The Eagles host Concordia Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. The game will be a "Biola Blackout" as fans are encouraged to wear all black.
