Box Score LA MIRADA, CA --- Everyone was feeling good inside Chase Gymnasium on Tuesday night as the Eagles won their first Golden State Athletic Conference game and looked better than they have in quite some time.
The Eagles gained a significant advantage by sharpshooting from the free throw line, going 40-52 on their way to an 80-63 washing of San Diego Christian. The win breaks a streak of three consecutive losses and starts one of three straight Ls for the Hawks.
"The girls worked hard today and executed," said Head Coach
Dr. Bethany Miller. "They were very efficient and good defensively, and it was fun to just watch the girls find their rhythm offensively."
The game began as a back-and-forth battle between two teams who were shooting very well, SDC shot great from beyond the arc and Biola was absolutely dominant inside with its trio of
Elizabeth Munger,
Chelsea Hill and
Adijat Adams.
Hill played fantastic all game long, leading the Eagles with 19 points and missing just one of her 14 free throw attempts in the game.
Despite a physical defensive attack by the Eagles, the Hawks led throughout almost the entire first half. It was not until the Eagles made a 9-2 run with a little more than a minute left in the half that they were able to take a slight lead from the Hawks.
Munger was a one-woman wrecking ball during that run, scoring seven of the Eagles' points, including a huge three-point play that was effectively the turning point of the contest.
Once halftime hit the house was rocking and the Eagles had all the momentum. They came out shooting and extended their lead to nine points in less than three minutes. They were draining three-point shots and extending and-one plays, looking like a completely different team from the one that lost at Vanguard this weekend.
"The women work hard everyday in practice and it was good to see them get a reward against a really good team in Sand Diego Christian," said Miller.
Playing time was spread around for the Eagles, helping four different players get to double-digit scoring as
Shonnell Hoyt notched a 10-point game to join Hill, Munger and Adams.
Biola outscored the Hawks 44-30 in the second half, picking up points in bunches down the stretch as the Hawks' Head Coach Irvin Jerry continued to call intentional fouls even when the Eagles had a 20-point lead.
The win helps Biola improve to 6-13 (1-2 GSAC) and moves SDCC to 9-7 (0-3 GSAC).
Biola gets back in action with a road game against The Master's on Saturday night.
