LA MIRADA, Calif --- Golden State Athletic Conference volleyball once again showed its might during the 2013 Biola Volleyball/Red Lion Hotel-Anaheim Summer Slam.

No. 4 Biola was one of three prominent GSAC schools that swept through their competition en route to a 4-0 showing at the tournament.

The Eagles entered day two coming off of a topsy-turvy day one where they picked up two wins but never appeared to be totally comfortable on the court.

Friday was much different, and much improved, for BU.

"It is day two," said Head Coach Aaron Seltzer. "Day two is always better than day one. We did a whole lot better."

Their day began with a matchup against Lewis-Clark State University, an unranked team who came into the day 0-2 at the tournament with losses to No. 9 The Master's and No. 1 Concordia-Irvine.

Biola handled the Warriors with a proficient, accurate all-out attack. They swept LCSC 3-0 (25-15,25-15,25-18) on the back of Chelsee Arnitz, Crissy Cunningham, Amy Weststeyn and Joclyn Kirton, all of whom had an attack percentage above .425.

Those four combined for 25 of BU's 36 kills as they outkilled LCSC by six. In addition to the greater number kills Biola's attack percentage was over 200 points higher than Lewis-Clark State.

"We played more fluid and a lot more consistent, and we got better as each match went on," Seltzer said.

Weststeyn and Kirton led all players with nine kills and Keisha Luebbert-Kennedy led LCSC with seven. Gracee Gallarda added 29 assists and 10 digs for BU's first double-double of the season.

The Eagles entered game two knowing that a win would help them join No. 16 Westmont and CUI as the only teams to run the table at this year's tournament. A win would also guarantee Biola's best start since opening the year 15-0 in 2008.

This extra motivation led BU to come out firing on all cylindars as they took game one 25-16. They hit .359 in the first set and garnered 20 kills in their first 25 points.

The match was in hand from that point forward as the Eagles' front line kept killing throughout the sets. Their continual offensive onslaught, and a little bit of fatigue on the other side, helped ensure that they maintained the lead throughout, as there were only three total lead changes throughout the three sets.

"Both teams we played today had competed in some really grueling five set matches," said Seltzer. "Then we came in fairly well rested and really took advantage of them being gassed."

Weststeyn had by far the best performance of the day, hitting over .570 in both matches, including a .640 mark against Concordia (Ore.). She garnered 18 kills while surprisingly coming away with just one block.

Gallarda added 42 assists, her second best total of the year, and Tara Rallis led all players with 13 digs out of the libero slot.

BU looks to add to its success next weekend as they travel to Irvine for the Asics/Wyndham Labor Day Classic hosted by CUI. They will square off against No. 25 Carroll, Cornerstone and Westminster. They are 14-3 all-time against that group of opponents.
