LA MIRADA, Calif. --- After a disappointing turnout at the Simpson University tournament in February, the softball team traveled to Tucson, Ariz. for their next tournament, seeking a better result.
 
Prior to the Tucson Invitational the team worked to a 4-12 record on the year, all in non-conference matchups. At the tournament they would face five more non-conference opponents in what would be an incredible starch of victories for the Eagles.
 
Sophomore pitcher Sarah Enriquez was the story of the tournament, as she pitched all five games for Biola and racked up 34 innings pitched and five wins over two days.
 
Brooke Madrid and Bria Madrid led the torrid offense that outscored its opponents 35-7 by knocking in a combined 12 RBI.
 
The tournament proved to be a confidence boost for Biola as the team picked up wins against Concordia (Minn.), Trinity International, Madonna, Sienna Heights and Aquinas.
 
The winning continued after the tournament, as the Eagles were able to down Dakota Wesleyan in a both games of a doubleheader a few days later.
 
All-GSAC catcher Bria Madrid, Heather Hall and Vanessa Coleman each picked up two RBI in game one of the doubleheader leading to a 10-2 win. The 5-2 win in game two was dominated by the offensive contributions of Coleman, who picked up two hits and scored two runs, and Celina Thornton, who knocked in two runs.
 
This streak in the middle of the season pushed Biola to 11-12, and they would stay hovering around the .500 mark for the remainder of the season, eventually finishing 25-28.
 
Enriquez was the ace of the staff throughout the season, parlaying this strong tournament appearance into a 21-18 overall mark and a 2.79 ERA on the year.
