LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola senior outfielder Chelsea Limm and junior catcher Celina Thornton have been named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District VIII College Division team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The honor recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and academically.

For Limm, this was her second-straight honor after earning a spot on the All-District VIII team last season. Limm posted a 3.59 GPA through the fall semester in pursuit of a degree in psychology.

The senior from Torrance, Calif., has been a consistent leader on the field as well, batting .232 with a team-best 16 walks and 27 runs scored. She was 4-for-6 in stolen base attempts and led the Eagles with 13 sacrifice bunts and two sacrifice flies.

The honor was the first for Thornton, a junior who also hails from Torrance, Calif. Thornton had the highest GPA among the three catchers on the team, recording a 3.62 GPA while working toward a degree in Christian ministries.

Thornton has been a mainstay in the Biola lineup, starting 48 games and hitting .277 on the season. The junior was among the team leaders in hits with 33, adding seven RBIs and 14 runs scored. In addition to her work behind the plate, she also filled in in the outfield and committed just three errors in 149 total chances between the two while throwing out nine of 21 potential base stealers.

The college division first-team is comprised of the NAIA, Canadian and junior colleges in Washington, Oregon, California, Hawaii, Alaska and the 13 provinces and territories in Canada. To be nominated for all-district consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.30 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale). No athlete is eligible until he or she has reached sophomore athletic and academic standing and has spent at least one year at the school.

As members of the district's first-team, the duo now appears on the CoSIDA/Capital One Academic All-America ballot, which will be announced around May 20. A school record 10 Biola student-athletes earned Academic All-America recognition last year and 15 have been honored overall.
