Biola Sweeps Arizona Christian to Close Out Regular Season

Celina Thornton connects on a walk-off single to win the game
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola closed out the regular season with a pair of come-from-behind wins including a thrilling 10-9 victory in game two after beating Arizona Christian 9-3 in the opener at Freedom Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles close out the regular season with a 23-26 regular-season record and at 7-9 in GSAC play. Biola wrapped up the sixth seed in the upcoming GSAC-Cal Pac Tournament next week and take on No. 3 seed Vanguard University at 11:45 am on Thursday, April 25.

The first game got off to a rocky start of the Eagles as Arizona Christian scored two unearned runs in first and added another run in the second to take an early 3-0 lead.

But Biola rallied back with three runs in the third inning to tie the game, capped by an RBI-double from Sam Roberts.

Two innings later, the Eagles took the lead on a three-run home run by Ashley Spadt--her third in as many games. Biola kept the rally going with three more runs as pinch-hitters Bria Madrid and Marisa Suarez collecting RBI-doubles to make it 9-3.

The second game was a thriller as Biola rallied back from a pair of late deficits to pull out the win.

Biola got the first two runs of the game thanks to an error to take a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

However, the Firestorm battled back and scored four runs in the third inning to go up 4-2.

The Eagles would get a run in the fourth as Sarah Stromwall led off with a double and came around to score on a single by Chelsea Limm which make the game 4-3.

Arizona Christian answered back with a pair of runs in the fifth inning which stretched the lead to 6-3. But the Eagles got a run back with a pinch-hit RBI single by Iliana Morales. The Firestorm answered right back with a solo home run which made it 7-4 and looked to be putting the game away.

Biola answered back with a three-run sixth to tie the game. With two out and the bases loaded, Heather Hall hit the first pitch she saw into right field for a bases clearing triple.

Neither team was able to get a run in the seventh and we headed to extra innings. Arizona Christian netted the first run as a single and an error allowed the tiebreaker runner to score with another single adding another tally. With the bases loaded and still no one out, Sarah Enriquez was called upon to close out the game. She was able to get three quick outs to end the threat.

Biola called back in the bottom of the eighth. Bria Madrid opened the inning with a triple down the left-field line, then tied the game by scoring on a passed ball. CeCe Luster reached on an error and reached second on a one-out walk. Luster would then hustle into third on a fly out to rightfield. Celina Thornton then came through with a clutch RBI-single up the middle to score Luster with the winning run.

Sarah Enriquez picked up the win in both games, improving to 20-17 on the season. Luster finished with four hits in five at bats to improve her batting average to .413 on the year. Bria Madrid went 4-for-6 in the doubleheader.
