Biola Splits Non-Conference Doubleheader Against Simpson

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola wrapped up a busy stretch of games with a split of a non-conference doubleheader against Simpson University, winning the first game 3-0 but falling 9-0 in five innings in the night cap on Thursday at Freedom Field.

The Eagles end the day with a 16-21 overall record while the Redhawks move to 24-16 on the season.

Biola got off to a great start in the first game, scoring a pair of runs in the bottom of the first by taking advantage of a Simpson error.

The Eagles added another run in the third as Heather Hall belted a solo shot to lead off the inning and make it 3-0.

Biola had chances again in the fifth and sixth innings but could not get a clutch hit to add on late. But it didn't matter for Eagle starter Sarah Enriquez, who allowed just six hits over seven shutout innings to pick up the win in game one.

However, Enriquez and the Eagles weren't as lucky in game two as defensive and offensive issues did Biola in.

Simpson opened the game with a pair of unearned runs to take an early 2-0 lead, then added three more runs in the third with a two-run home run providing the big blow. A solo home run by the Redhawks in the fourth stretched the lead to 6-0 and Simpson would score three more in the fifth to pull away.

Biola struggled to get things going offensively, putting pair of runners on in the first and third innings, but being unable to score. The Eagles got a leadoff walk by Brooke Madrid to start the third and a single by Chelsea Limm to put two on with no one out. After a sacrifice bunt moved them into scoring position, a strikeout and fly out ended the threat.

The Eagles return to action after Easter, returning to GSAC play with a doubleheader at GSAC newcomer Arizona Christian on Wednesday, April 3 at 2:00 p.m.
