Adijat Adams matched a season-high with 27 points, but a season-high 31 Biola turnovers led to a 66-57 loss to San Diego Christian College in a GSAC game on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles suffer their second-straight loss and fall to 11-13 on the season and to 2-7 in conference play. The Hawks improve to 13-12 and to 5-4 in the GSAC.
Adams had one of the best games of the season thus far, hitting 12-of-15 shots from the field for 27 points. It matched her season-high which also came against San Diego Christian in El Cajon back in mid-January. Adams also had nine rebounds and a steal while committing just two fouls in 35 minutes.
But the Eagles struggled against San Diego Christian's high-pressure defense and committed a season-high 31 turnovers, leading to 29 points off turnovers by the Hawks. Despite those numbers, the game was close through out and came down to the final few minutes.
Biola led off and on over the final 10 minutes of the game, breaking a tie with an Adams jumper to take a 55-53 lead with 3:40 to play. But San Diego Christian answered back with a bucket on the other end and a Biola foul gave the Hawks a shot at a three-point play. The free throw was missed, but a bucket an offensive rebound and putback gave the Hawks the lead back at 57-55 with 3:03 to play.
Biola cut into the lead as Adams hit one of two free throws just over a minute later, but the Hawks got a big bucket as Heather Serven hit a three-pointer to make it a four-point game with under a minute to go. But Biola committed a pair of turnovers on the next two possessions while the Hawks hit four free throws to ice the game.
The Eagles started off the game strong, jumping out to a quick 12-4 lead over the first six minutes. San Diego Christian responded with a three-pointer on the next possession, starting a 17-4 run over the next four minutes to go on top 21-16 at the midway point of the first half. The Hawks would stretch the lead to 10 with 4:51 left, but the Eagles got back-to-back three-pointers from Aubree Mittel and cut the lead to four and eventually headed to the half trailing by one at 34-33.
The game went back and fourth in the second half, staying within three points over much of the final 20 minutes.
Serven and Brittany Daniel led the Hawks with 15 points each while Hannah Miller added 14.
The Eagles return to action on Saturday, traveling to Santa Clarita to face No. 9 The Master's College in a GSAC game at 5:30 p.m.
