David Cline scored a game-high 27 points and added 10 rebounds for his second double-double in the last three games to lead Biola to a 76-68 win over San Diego Christian in a GSAC game on Tuesday night at Chase Gymnasium.
The Eagles snap a two-game losing streak and improve to 13-12 on the season and to 3-6 in GSAC play while dropping the Hawks to 6-12 overall and to 3-6 in the conference.
Cline was 11-of-18 from the field and a perfect 5-of-5 from the free throw line. He added a pair of blocks and a steal while pulling down 10 rebounds. Jeremy Pope added 13 points while Mike Kurtz scored 12.
Biola got off to an awful start, falling behind 18-5 over the first five minutes of the game. Still trailing by 13 three minutes later, Biola went on a 13-point run to tie the game at 23-23 on a fast break layup by Cody Wittick with 9:26 to go in the half.
Back-to-back three-pointers by Pope gave Biola its first lead of the game at 3-433 with 5:33 left, but a six-point run by the Hawks to close out the half gave the visitors a 42-37 lead at halftime.
The second half was close with neither team able to pull away from the other. Biola trailed by two at 62-60 with 7:34 to go in the game, but went on a six-point run capped by a dunk from Kurtz to take a 66-62 lead with 4:38 to go.
Clinging to a two-point lead with just over a minute to play, Cline hit a tough jumper as he was fouled, making the free throw to make it a five-point game at 71-66. The Eagles would convert free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
Biola held a decided edge in second-chance points, scoring 19 off 12 offensive rebounds. The Eagles also shot 50 percent in the game including 53.8 percent in the second half.
The Eagles head back on the road for their next game, traveling to face The Master's College in a GSAC showdown on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
