Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- To say that
Amy Weststeyn played the best game of her career in No. 3 Biola's 3-0 (25-18, 25-25, 25-18) win over No. 14 Westmont on Saturday night, would be a severe understatement.
Â
The junior middle blocker converted 15 of her 18 attacks and did not commit a single error in the Eagles' three set sweep and had an attack percentage of .833. She played the game of her life on a night when she needed to, because not all of Biola's hitters were as sharp as they have been all season long.
Â
"Amy had one of the best matches of her life tonight," said Head Coach
Aaron Seltzer. "She had by far the best match she has had all year, if not one of her best ever."
Â
In addition to Weststeyn,
Alyssa Mason got into double-digits in kills with 10. She suffered from two late attack errors, or else she too would have had an excellent attack percentage as she dominated the first two sets.
Britta Blaser also had a quietly solid game for BU, tacking on five kills and hitting .500 with two blocks.
Â
The Eagles cruised through the Warriors, picking up 15-plus kills in each set and holding Westmont to a total of 27, only hitting double-digits in the first set.
Â
"I felt very comfortable with how the match went on. We defended very well; I loved it," said Seltzer.
Â
Fantastic digging by the Eagles' defensive specialists kept the Eagles on the attack so they could accumulate all the impressive offensive stats.
Charley Parker,
Crissy Cunningham,
Emily Weingartner and
Alex Brehaut led a great defensive front for BU.
Â
"Britta played well, Charley played well, and overall it was just a very solid team effort tonight," said Seltzer. "Everybody was out there and fired up, it was just great energy."
Â
Biola built upon its dominance as the match progressed, trailing once in the first set and being tied twice in the second, only to lead throughout the entire third set.
Â
The win moves the Eagles to 21-2 (11-1 GSAC) on the season and helps them keep pace with No. 2 Concordia, who shares an identical record after a sweep of Hope International.
Â
Biola travels to San Diego Christian on Tuesday night before wrapping up their regular season with a showdown against Concordia Nov. 16.
