LA MIRADA, Calif. --- Biola soccer upped the ante on the field and in class this season, as they increased from last season's one Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American nod to four this season.
 
Scott Hayes, a senior defender, led the way by picking up an Academic All-American first team honor, the first in the history of Biola soccer. It is Hayes' second consecutive Academic All-American honor after he took home a third team nod in 2012.
 
Stephen Day and Daniel Chew each earned their first Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American honor as they were named to the second team. Biola's three award-winners were the only Golden State Athletic Conference men's soccer athletes to get the honor.
 
Hayes was one of four defenders named to the first team squad, after working his way to a 3.96 GPA while studying intercultural studies. He was a key piece of Biola's back line, the best defense in the GSAC, and helped lead them to a 14-4-1 overall record and nearly a national championship berth.
 
Day was one of just six midfielders in the nation, at the collegiate division, to get an Academic All-American nod. He scored one goal and six assists while earning a 3.89 GPA as a journalism major. His GPA was the third best among all midfielders who got the award.
 
Chew was the offensive powerhouse for BU throughout the regular season and conference postseason. He more than doubled his previous career high in goals by scoring 18 this season, while tacking on one assist. He is in his senior year of studies, working towards a degree in business management, and has a cumulative grade point average of 3.65.
 
Morgan Aukshunas has been an all-conference and All-American athlete, and now she can hang up her cleats after becoming the Eagles' first ever Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American in women's soccer.
 
She nabbed the award after anchoring another solid season by the Biola defense, one in which she nabbed her second straight All-GSAC honor and led Biola to a 9-9-1 year. She is one of just three GSAC women's soccer players to get the nod as Academic All-Americans. She earned a 3.80 GPA while studying kinesiology.
 
In order to be named a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American the student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve for the squad and have a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher. The award is only available for athletes who are a sophomore or above, and have spent at least one full season at their institution.
