Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- One player had the night of her life, and her 36 points, in large part, caused Biola to drop its eighth consecutive game in a 74-70 loss to La Sierra.
Â
The big performance by the Golden Eagles' guard took away the happy ending from what was otherwise a fairly solid performance by BU. Natalia Hawthorne shot 12-20 from the field and 7-8 from the line to get her points, nearly half of the total team points for LSU.
Â
Adijat Adams had a big night for the Eagles, picking up 22 points and 14 rebounds for yet another double-double.
Kiara Clark and
Shonnell Hoyt each reached double-digits as well, grabbing 14 and 12 points, respectively.
Â
The game was back-and-forth throughout, but the Eagles seemed to have the upper hand throughout the night, despite their inability to stop Hawthorne. Biola led by seven with about six minutes to play in the first half, but then the lead quickly evaporated after a 10-2 run by LSU.
Â
Both teams battled for the rest of the half, and the Eagles entered halftime with a 34-33 lead.
Â
The second half opened with a bunch of turnovers on both sides, but then the Eagles began to increase their lead once again, and they were up by five with 16 minutes to play.
Â
Some fouls and missed shots by BU helped the Golden Eagles go on a huge 17-3 run that lasted six minutes and put them up by 13 with just 3:30 to play.
Â
Adams and Hoyt started to take over the game at this point as they combined for 10 points over the remainder of the game to give the Eagles a chance at a comeback. Hoyt showed tremendous tenacity pushing her way to the rim and picking up a foul on a three-point play with 48 seconds left to play.
Â
The comeback effort fell just short after a last second turnover and a clutch made free throw by the Golden Eagles' Victoria Lowe.
Â
The Eagles were called for 20 fouls in the game, resulting in 16 points off of free throws for the Golden Eagles, while BU was only able to pick up 11 points at the line. Biola also had trouble with turnovers, giving LSU control of the ball 21 times in the game.
Â
The loss drops Biola to 0-8 this season, their worst start since 2000-01. They host Bethesda on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m.
