Box Score REDDING, Calif. --- Biola broke ground on its 2013-14 season on Friday night as the squad battled, but fell, to the Red Hawks of Simpson. Simpson won its home opener and Biola's first official game 59-52.
The Eagles were blown away by SU in the first half thanks in large part to a 14-0 run that ate up nearly five full minutes of the first frame. Tiffany Asserude keyed the run by the Red Hawks, scoring the first ten points of the 14.
Imana Joseph was able to finally break the ice for the Eagles with just over seven minutes remaining in the half, but the damage was already done as BU and SU traded baskets for most of the remainder of the half.
A different Biola team came out after halftime, as the five on the court were playing with renewed tenacity and pulled the Eagles back into the game after going into the half faced with a 28-17 deficit.
Numerous smaller runs kept the eagles inching their way back into the game, but it was a big 11-3 run in the waning minutes that brought them to as close as just a six point deficit, before they did eventually fall by a differential of seven.
Dr. Bethany Miller, head coach, used a fairly deep rotation for the first road game of the season, getting seven players decent minutes and playing 10 women overall.
Back to her old ways
Adijat Adams led the way for Biola, scoring 15 points on the night, second only to Simpson's Asserude, who netted 22. Adams also got up to snag 13 total rebounds, far above anyone else on the court.
The Eagles fell behind due to some shooting that was less than perfect at 29.1 percent, compared to SU's 35.1. Biola did lead with 42 boards, compared to the Red Hawks 40.
The Eagles take on William Jessup on the road on Saturday.
