Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- It is becoming a routine, hopefully one soon to be broken, but still, a routine. The Eagles, yet again, had a very strong and competitive first half, only to eventually fall at the end of the day.
Â
This time, after trailing by just nine at the break, and leading for the first eight minutes of the game, the Eagles were outscored by 19 in the seasond half to quickly watch a close game turn into a big 62-34 loss.
Â
Turnovers killed Biola again, as they gave the ball away 21 throughout the 40 minutes. The turnovers resulted in 22 points for No. 5 Westminster. The Eagles, who took the ball away from the Griffins eight times, failed to get a single point off a turnover.
That 22 point difference made up nearly all of the 28 points Biola eventually lost by. The rest of that differential was made up by the Eagles' poor shooting from all over the floor, especially behind the arc. Biola shot just 26.9 (14-52) percent from the floor, but even lower (18.8 percent) from three-point land.
Â
Four Griffins players made it to double-digit points scored and three of them tacked on at least five rebounds, even though they did come up with fewer overall rebounds than Biola, who won the battle of the boards 32-30.
Â
Amanda Darouie led Biola with seven points, and she was one of just three Eagles to convert one from behind the arc. Five Eagles picked up five-plus rebounds, including six by
Imani Joseph, who was a beast on the boards in the early going, and a key reason BU was able to get, and maintain, an early lead.
Â
The loss continues the unfortunate start to BU's season and drops them to 0-6, while WCUT improves to 4-0. Biola continues their quest for a win tomorrow at home against the University of Mary. The game tips off at 3 p.m.
