Box Score LA MIRADA, Calif. --- In the 18
th minute
Michelle Andre's head broke a long 337-minute scoring draught plaguing Biola, and she put the Eagles up 1-0 on Hope International. BU would go on to find the net two more times in the game to defeat their closest conference rival 3-0.
Â
Joining Andre in the scoring spree was
Chrissy King and
Jessie Burns, who netted their eighth and four goals of the season, respectively. All the scoring led to less offensive pressure by HIU, which helped
Briana Williams pick up her sixth shutout of the season.
Â
"We started the game pretty determined tonight, but that was just exceeded as the game went on, which was good to see," said Head Coach
Todd Elkins. "I knew that the team had put the pressure on themselves to come out hard early and create chances and get forward to attack, attack, attack."
Â
Attack is exactly what the Eagles did, picking up 36 total shots in the game, 15 of them on goal. Biola took 17 shots in the first 45 minutes and netted one goal, Andre's header off a corner kick from
Michelle Clark, pushing Hope International's starting goalkeeper out of the game.
Â
The pressure did not stop after the half, as the Eagles relentlessly kept shooting the ball, hoping to find the twine a couple more times.
Â
It was not until the 80
th minute that BU was able to convert one on HIU's new keeper, but King was able to dribble the ball down the field past some tired defenders and tip one in for her team-leading eighth of the year.
Â
"The pressure and momentum continued to build up as we attacked, it was almost like a snowball effect," said Elkins. "We started to get a few consistent attacks and consistent chances, which was the fruits of the labor that was going on early in the game."
Â
The offensive flow of the game today was a little different than the way Biola normally plays it, as they have proven to be a first half team throughout the majority of the year. They have scored 17 times in the first 45 minutes and just 11 times in the second half.
Â
As the icing on the cake
Jessie Burns was able to push one past the keeper with just three minutes remaining in the game. Her score came off a great cross from the right side by
Amanda Lillicrop. Lillicrop had a great game drawing defensive pressure on the right wing and creating chances for the Eagles inside attackers.
Â
The win boosts Biola to 8-6-1 (2-4-1 GSAC) and pushes the Royals to 3-9-3 (1-5-1 GSAC). BU moves on to a tough test this Saturday with a road match against the first place No. 11 Concordia Eagles.
"It was a good confidence boost to come in here and get those goals, create a lot of chances and shots," said Elkins. "It was good for us to get 15 shots on goal, it means we were starting to find the target. We need to be that determined and aggressive on the offensive side against Concordia."
