Biola Falls 58-54 at Concordia

Box Score IRVINE, Calif. --- Adijat Adams had a 13-point, 14-rebound double-double while Aubree Mittel added 12 points but a nearly eight-minute scoring drought to end the game cost Biola in a 58-54 loss at Concordia on Saturday night.

Biola falls to 10-11 on the season and to 1-5 in GSAC play while Concordia improves to 5-13 and to 3-3 in the conference.

Adams recorded her second-straight double-double and eighth of the season, hitting 6-of-15 from the field for 13 points, but adding 14 rebounds including nine on the defensive end.

Mittel connected of 4-of-8 shots from three-point range to finish with 12 points, adding two assists in 27 minutes. Chelsea Hill nearly had a double-double of her own with nine points and nine rebounds.

The contest was close through out with Biola opening up an early 10-4 lead five minutes into the game on a three-pointer by Mittel. Concordia closed the gap to one and the teams went back and forth the rest of the period with the home team holding a slight 32-30 lead.

Concordia opened the second half on a 7-1 run to take its largest lead at 39-31 two minutes in. Still down by eight two minutes later, Biola rattled off a 9-2 run to pull back to within one on a three-point play by Hill with 12:22 left.

The teams went back and forth from there with a pair of free throws tying the game at 51-51 with 9:16 left. Biola broke the tie at the 7:42 mark on a three-pointer by Mittel to take a 54-51 lead. But that proved to be the final points of the game for Biola.

Concordia got a layup by Camesha Patton one minute later, then took back the lead on a bucket by Katie Ogdon at the 6:12 mark.

Neither team scored the next three minutes until a three-pointer by Melody Chavez made it 58-54 with 3:22 to play. That proved to be the final points in the game as Concordia held on down the stretch for the win.

Biola went 0-for-8 over the final 7:52 of the game and twice missed the front end of one-and-one attempts. Overall, the Eagles connected on 9-of-29 shots from the field with four of them coming from three-point range.

Concordia didn't fare much better, hitting 11-of-24 in the period but just 3-of-11 over the final 10 minutes of the game. Concordia also was 5-of-13 from the free throw line overall.

Biola returns home to close out the first half of GSAC play, hosting Arizona Christian (4-14, 0-6 GSAC) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
