Eagles Can't Slow No. 16 Hope International

David Cline
Box Score FULLERTON, Calif. --- Biola got off to a strong start, but a long run to end the first half gave No. 16 Hope International a lead it would not relinquish as the Royals held court with a 71-37 victory on Tuesday night in a GSAC game at Darling Pavilion.

The Eagles fall to 11-10 on the season and drop to 1-4 in GSAC. The Royals continue their best season in program history by improving to 19-2 and to 4-1 in the conference.

The game got off to a back-and forth start with Biola pulling to within two on a steal and layup by David Cline to make it 14-12 with 9:39 to play. But the Eagles' offense went cold as the Royals outscored Biola 20-7 over the rest of the half to take a 34-19 lead to the break.

Things went from bad to worse in the second half as the Royals used a 13-2 run to take a 22-point lead with 12:02 to play. Hope just continued to pull away and finished with a 34-point win.

Biola's offense really never got going. The Eagles shot just 29.4% from the field, hitting 1-of-11 from three-point range and being out-rebounded 40-29.

Cline was the lone Eagle in double-figures with 12, though Mike Kurtz scored nine points and added seven rebounds.

Jeremy Kilgore led Hope with 23 points with Kris Rosales scoring 11 and Garrett Neilan adding 10.

Biola's 37 points matched a dubious record as the fewest scored in a game in program history. The last time the Eagles scored 37 came during the 1990-91 season when Biola lost 48-37 at Westmont.

The Eagles look to right the ship on Saturday, heading back on the road to face GSAC rival Concordia University in a conference matchup at 7:30 p.m. in Irvine.
